The Need for Newer Education

With the onset of AI imminent, the established education system will be rendered moot.  An augmentation of the current system is mandatory if we are to truly adapt to future technology.

In the modern era, there is no shortage of educated individuals. The current system of education is exceptional at skill-oriented diversification of knowledge. The core pre-requisite of quality employment is good technical skill and a reasonable knowledge base. While it works in the current era, it’s imperative to understand that the current era is at the tail end of its life.

Artificial intelligence is on the brink of exploding to the point of being applicable in nearly every wake of life. The imminent arrival of AI technology will change the very foundation of the way we go about our daily business. Such is the potential impact of AI. While it will definitely create newer avenues for employment, it will also lead to employee lay-offs in millions. Moreover, new employment opportunities come with newer educational requirements. Soon, skills and a simplistic knowledge base will not be sufficient to guarantee employment. It is for this reason that education needs to witness a shift from skill-oriented learning to a more rational and practical approach.

The new era of education; challenging humans to match the rationale of AI

AI has one definite purpose; to be a super-intelligent problem solving medium that aids mankind. The keyword here is problem solving, considering we humans are already an interesting species. Expecting to be hired purely on the basis of knowledge and skill will no longer be an option. AI will satisfy those requirements at the workplace at an unmatched speed. The challenge of the future is to create a workforce that is capable of a problem-solving approach.

The creative knowledge trait coupled with a rational approach and a strong problem solving acumen is the workforce composition the future needs. It is in this direction that education must shift to, in order to cope with the very technology we create. This new mode of teaching will witness more collaboration between teachers and students to address problems of daily living. The rate at which newer problems will arrive and older problems evolve is what students will need to keep pace with. They will be expected to take learning beyond the classroom paradigm. The key to addressing problems comes from learning, applying their learning and re-applying their knowledge beyond the classroom paradigm. In this way, a problem solving culture can be cultivated. With an immersive approach that involves being able to reapply learning and rework solutions for evolved problems, the issue of evolving problems is addressed at the education level. With modern amenities at their finger tips, students will also be able to experiment and constantly build on their learning in a secure environment. In this manner, education will witness a revolution towards an immersive solution oriented approach with adequate application of learning at a grassroots level.

Pushing the boundaries of conventional education will enable the creation of a capable workforce for the future

It is now evident that future generations will not be adequately armed with simply a transfer of knowledge. Human beings have always been rational animals. Yet somehow in the midst of rapid evolution, the problem solving approach has been underwhelmed for quite a while now. By pushing the boundaries of conventional education, mankind will cumulatively be able to transition to the future. The implications of new education means the creation of a workforce that can solve problems and has a holistic mix of knowledge and practical experience. A workforce with these traits at its core will be adequately capable of addressing real-world problems shoulder to shoulder with AI.
